About Me

Birth and Education
I was born in Georgia in 1984 on July 28th as the second oldest of four girls. I attended private Christian schools until sixth grade and was home schooled from then on. I graduated with my B. A. in English May 2011.
Music - The Early Years
My first musical influences were Gospel, Motown and Children songs. Diana Ross was a major influence on me wanting to sing. At age 12, Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey solidified my desire. As a teen I first started writing lyrics to the music of the Sega Genesis™ Sonic the Hedgehog™ games. I simply sang my lyrics to the music and recorded using my talk-boy, lol. Soon, however, I began to write original songs and I needed original music. So, I requested a keyboard for my 16th birthday. I'd had brief piano lessons at age 11, but I mostly used the pre-programmed beats for my original lyrics. At age 18, however, I restricted myself to totally original music and melodies.
Music - The Transition
Eventually, I wanted to be a complete singer-songwriter-producer type of artist. As a teenager I had ambitions of being the next dancing pop star like Janet Jackson and the Spice Girls, whose videos my sisters and I would imitate. But as I aged I evolved into a different kind of artist with a different goal in mind. I felt like the 90s saw the end of girls on guitars rocking out and singing songs they wrote themselves. I wanted to bring this type of female artist back to the spotlight. No more dancing around in skimpy outfits. I, as a proud virgin-until-married, defy the idea that sex is the only things that sells. And no, I do not wear a purity ring as they call them 0.O.
Anyway, at 23 I bought my first electric guitar for $60. I soon began to teach myself to play using different video tutorials from You Tube. And while I'm still learning, I rely on skilled musicians to help produce my songs. I'm currently attending grad school, but continue to work on my music. I've suffered many failed attempts at getting major label's attention as many existing mainstream artist today have. But from here on out I'm doing it indie one song at a time because I believe in my music. I hope you will too.
Sincerely,
- Veronica Voden
